Let us introduce ourselves!

At Esschert Design, we are committed to creating high-quality collections that reflect our love of gardening and nature. Our products are designed to be both functional and visually appealing, with a focus on sustainability and quality. We work closely with retailers to make our collections accessible to a wide audience, helping everyone create a beautiful and inviting outdoor space. From stylish planters to birdhouses that blend seamlessly into their surroundings, our innovative and decorative products are carefully designed to inspire and delight.

Our passion for outdoor living is reflected in everything we do, from the materials we use to the designs we create. At Esschert Design, we believe that spending time in nature is essential to our wellbeing, and we are dedicated to helping people connect with the natural world in meaningful ways.

Driven by our ambitions and increasingly demanding legislation, we want and need to embed ESG more firmly into our strategy, organisational objectives and business operations. We are therefore looking for an energetic and proactive professional who can take a broad view of the organisation, initiate and coordinate ESG activities, and take them to the next level. You will work closely with colleagues across the business to translate these initiatives into day-to-day operations.

The role of Corporate Sustainability & Compliance Officer

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring trends and developments in legislation and regulations, and developing roadmaps to ensure compliance, including with EUDR, CBAM, GPSR and PPWR.

  • Ensuring compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements for packaging, electronics and batteries in the various countries where we sell our products.

  • Ensuring our packaging complies with the legislation and regulations of the countries in which we operate, including requirements relating to packaging symbols, warning statements and other specific icons.

  • Building support and commitment across the organisation for our ESG strategy.

  • Attending events and training sessions and acting as the main point of contact for ESG-related matters with industry organisations such as Tuinbranche Nederland and amfori.

  • Acting as the central link between Product Development, Design, Purchasing, Marketing and Sales, ensuring everyone understands their responsibilities regarding ESG and compliance.

  • Managing the annual FSC, GRS, ENplus and Ready to Burn audits to maintain our product certifications.

What do we offer?

We also offer:

  • A competitive salary reflecting your qualifications and experience;

  • A good pension scheme;

Could we be a good match?

You will thrive with us if you are comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy, have a hands-on mentality and can adapt flexibly to changing circumstances. If you also know how to use humour to build positive working relationships, we already have a great starting point.

  • You have completed a relevant higher professional education qualification, at least equivalent to a Dutch HBO degree. A background in Business Administration or Compliance & Ethics is a strong advantage.

  • You have several years of experience in a similar position.

  • You can initiate change and positively influence others through your strong relationship-building and collaboration skills.
